Few sportbike owners go looking for a finer filter, and that blind spot is what this page is about. A 703RR's fairing and riding position suggest clean circuit air. The air it actually breathes is mostly the road's: traffic, road works, and the fine grey dust that settles on a motorcycle left parked for a week. The P14 is made for that air. It gives up flow where a road ride spends the least time, and it catches far more of what the road throws at the intake.

What 14 µm buys, and what it costs
The standard P08 is woven at 80 µm; this nonwoven mat filters down to 14. That difference is the whole reason to fit it, and it is paid for in flow: 1,800 litres per square metre per second, against 5,050 for the P08. Neither figure is a ranking. At a steady road speed the engine draws a small fraction of what either element passes, so the finer mat costs almost nothing there. The cost appears when the triple is held wide open near the top of its rev range — the state a track day lives in and a road ride only visits.
When to leave it out
If a 703RR does regular track days, or its owner simply spends a lot of time high in the rev range on clean roads, the P08 is the better element and the P14 is the wrong trade. The same goes for any expectation of performance: the P14 is not a tuning part, and nothing dropped into a standard airbox makes the bike stronger. It is a protection choice for dirty air, priced at about seven tenths of the standard element, and it is worth exactly as much as the dust on your roads.
Care and cleaning
Remove SM300P14 and blow compressed air through the mat from the clean side outwards, covering the whole surface. When it has taken a heavier load, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until clear. Dry it in moving air at room temperature only — heat guns, radiators and flames damage the fibres — and fit it back dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
