A filter is not protecting an engine in general. It is protecting a short list of named surfaces: the bore of the throttle body and the edge of the butterfly that closes in it, the seats the intake valves land on, and the first stretch of cylinder wall the rings sweep on every stroke. Grit that reaches any of them announces nothing. There is no noise, no warning lamp, no step in the power, and the bill arrives years later as a compression reading. The CM265P14 is bought for those surfaces, and it filters at 14 microns to reach them first.
Key Features
- Special dry non-woven fabric, rated at 14 µm with a flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec
- A filtration rating close to six times finer than the 80 µm of the standard woven medium
- Depth instead of mesh: the material holds particles within its thickness, not only on its face
- Dry for its whole service life, so no oil film sits ahead of the throttle body or the sensors
- Around twice the filtering surface of other performance elements, in an unmodified airbox
- Washable and reusable in place of the factory panel, with two years of warranty
The surfaces that never report
Abrasive wear is the quietest thing that can happen inside an engine. Nothing about it is audible, and by the time it is measurable it has already been paid for, which makes it the one form of damage nobody can deal with when it appears. A finer medium is therefore not a repair and not an upgrade: it is a decision taken in advance, on behalf of parts that will never send a signal either way. For a Classic 650 that lives on sealed roads there is little to decide, because the standard weave already meets those conditions. Where the roads are habitually dusty, the calculation changes for surfaces rather than for figures.
How 14 microns are made
Not with a tighter weave. The P14 is a different material made by a different process, a non-woven mat with real thickness, and the particles it stops are caught in that depth rather than on a single surface. That construction is also what the flow figure reflects: 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the woven medium is a genuine reduction, paid on every intake stroke in exchange for what never gets through. None of it produces power. A drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and the finer medium is, if anything, the more restrictive purchase.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air along the clean face of the CM265P14, always working outwards, is the routine service. Where the deposit is oily rather than dusty, lukewarm water and a mild detergent lift what air leaves behind, followed by a rinse until the water runs clear. Then it dries in open air and in its own time. Heat destroys the fabric, so no gun, no heater and no flame, and it goes back into the box dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Royal Enfield Classic 650 of 2025 and 2026. Sprint Filter lists the same fine element for the Shotgun 650 from 2024 and the Super Meteor 650 from 2023, three machines in all. Confirm your year in the Fitment tab.
