It adds no power — nothing dropped into an untouched airbox does — and with this medium the honest account has a second half: choosing it costs air. Where the 80 µm weave passes more than the engine ever asks for on the road, the mat passes less, and the gap becomes visible only where a wide throttle is held for long stretches. In return the machine gets a finer barrier that is cleaned and refitted instead of binned, holding its restriction steady across a service interval rather than drifting upward through it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eCare and cleaning\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eAir from the clean side, outwards, is the whole of routine maintenance for the PM187P14; the nozzle should never work from the face that collects the dirt. If a long dry spell has packed the surface tighter than air will clear, lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent will do it, followed by rinsing until the water carries nothing away. Then leave it alone in moving air until it is dry right through — heaters, ovens and flames destroy the material, and no shortcut is worth that — and refit it dry, with nothing applied to it.
