Of all the V7 II variants, the Stone is the one most likely to be doing something useful on a Tuesday in February. Cast wheels, matt paint, nothing on it that a salted road can ruin — it is the version people commute on, and commuting is the duty cycle in which an air filter does the most work and receives the least thought. The Sprint Filter P08 PM138S suits a bike used that way for one reason above all: it is the only part of the intake that can be put back to how it started.
Key Features
- Polyester weave, used dry, with nothing sprayed or brushed onto it in service
- Calibrated 80-micron aperture and a quoted flow of 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Roughly twice the filtering area of the usual performance panel in this box
- Replaces the paper element in the standard airbox without alteration or reflash
- Designed to be washed under a tap deliberately, as a scheduled operation
- Two years of cover from the manufacturer, beginning at purchase
Winter is a one-way trip for cellulose
A bike ridden through the cold months meets road salt, grit thrown up by everything else on the road, and the greasy film that settles on anything parked outdoors. Paper deals with all of it by absorbing it, and paper only moves in one direction: whatever a January leaves in the pleats stays there until the element is binned. There is no service operation that recovers it, which is why the standard advice is simply to replace more often. That advice is correct, and it is also an admission about the material.
Washing as maintenance rather than accident
The polyester panel is designed around the opposite assumption. Getting it wet is not a mishap to be avoided but the deep-clean procedure the manufacturer specifies, and the aperture after drying is the aperture from before, because the thread does not swell and set. In practice that means a March ritual: lid off, panel out, warm water, a full day drying indoors, back in. The intake starts the riding season where it started the last one, which is not something a commuter on paper elements can None of which is a performance claim. A commuter gains no horsepower from a filter; it gains an intake that does not quietly deteriorate between one October and the next.
Care and cleaning
Between washes, an air line on the clean face — outwards, never inwards — handles the ordinary loading. The wash itself wants hand-warm water and a mild detergent, with rinsing continued until nothing further comes out of the cloth. Drying is the only slow part: still air, room temperature, no radiator, no hot-air gun, no flame, and no shortcuts, because heat deforms the weave permanently. Refit the PM138S dry and leave it untreated. The manufacturer's own sheet is available under Downloads.
