DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 60293-34 is a shock absorber spring rated at 100 N/mm, 190 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. Rear spring rate sets ride height, static sag and how much of the damper's stroke is actually usable.
Key Features
- Straight-wound, constant rate
- Measured spring rate 100 N/mm
- Powder-coated yellow
- Inner diameter 46 mm
- Free length 190 mm
- Öhlins part number 60293-34
- 86 mm of usable stroke
Why the Rate Holds
Öhlins winds, heat-sets and then measures every spring individually — the rate on the label is the rate you get. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976. Rates are offered in defined steps, so a change can be made in one direction at a time.
The Numbers That Matter
The 46 mm bore and 190 mm length are the two figures that decide whether it physically fits; 100 N/mm decides whether it suits the rider.
What This Rate Does
A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. Firm rates also suit machines carrying luggage as a matter of course. Road surfaces are the hardest test of a spring rate, because the fork has to cope with both a smooth stretch and a broken one.
Rate and the Linkage
Two riders 20 kg apart on the same motorcycle genuinely need different rates, not different clicks. Progressive springs change rate through the stroke, which suits machines with little travel and a lot of load. Adding a pillion or luggage changes the rear load enough that the standard rate stops working properly.
Applications
Öhlins builds springs to dimensions rather than to model lists, so the question is always the same: does the diameter fit, does the length fit, and is the rate right for the rider? Where Öhlins lists this size against a particular unit, the listing is a starting point rather than a boundary. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork.
Fitting
Öhlins states the oil and the air-gap for this application — both are part of the setting, not a detail. Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil. Fork oil should be replaced at the same time — it is already out of the leg.
Road Approval
Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.
Fitting and Setup Service
Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
