DescriptionThe whole story▼
The second-generation S1000 XR takes the JP CO BM038, one milled Ergal body carrying both the throttle housing and the right-hand switch block.
Key Features
- BMW S1000 XR (2020–2026)
- Machined from a single block of Ergal 7075
- Integrated right-hand switch block
- Black anodised
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
The Version That Fixed the Complaints
BMW reworked the XR for 2020 and took about ten kilograms out of it, along with most of the vibration that had defined the first generation. The result is the motorcycle the original was clearly trying to be: a genuinely fast crossover that can be ridden all day without the hands going numb.
Hours, Not Sessions
An XR is used differently from every other bike sharing this engine. Riders take it across countries rather than around circuits, and the right-hand controls are worked continuously across those days: cruise control, mode changes, heated grips at dawn. The wear is cumulative and quiet.
Gloves and Weather
Long-distance riding means operating the controls in the dark, in the wet, and through winter gloves. A moulded button that has softened is genuinely ambiguous under those conditions. A machined step between one control and the next gives the thumb something definite regardless of what it is wearing.
One Component for Both Jobs
The switches are built into the throttle housing, so both are renewed together. This unit does that in a single machined body using the motorcycle's own connector, with nothing rewired and no coding required.
Not for the First Generation
The fitment starts in 2020. The 2015 to 2019 XR uses a different housing and a different connector; the BM018 or BM018XR covers that bike. It is worth checking rather than assuming, since the two generations are visually similar.
Cruise Control Stays
Everything the XR is bought for continues to work after the change. The unit uses BMW's own connector, so cruise control, the riding modes and the heated grips behave exactly as they did, and no dealer coding is needed.
