A Naked Superbike Four
Kawasaki took the ZX-10R architecture, softened it for midrange and removed the fairing. The Z1000 has been doing that since 2003.
A Hundred and Forty-Two Horsepower
From 1043 cc, with the torque moved considerably lower than the superbike manages. It is a road engine rather than a detuned race one.
Under the Tank
On most of the range the connector sits above the airbox and behind the steering head, which means the tank comes off. It is the access rather than the work that takes the time.
Not the Same as a Decat
Removing a catalytic converter is a separate change with separate consequences. The two are often done together and they address entirely different parts of the exhaust.
Fitted With an Exhaust
Almost every Kawasaki that gets this part also gets a silencer, and doing both in one session means the new exhaust is never blamed for a noise it did not cause.
The Cost of the Shortcut
A jumper wire produces a resistance the controller was not looking for, and the resulting code is harder to diagnose than the original absence. Doing it properly is cheaper than explaining it later.
Somewhere to Put the Seat
The most underrated preparation for a job of this kind, and the difference between a clean workshop and a scratched panel on an expensive motorcycle.
The Question Every Owner Eventually Asks
Whether the crackle on a trailing throttle is normal. It is, on any modern Kawasaki with a freer exhaust, and explaining why usually takes longer than fitting the part that stops it. Dealers hear the question constantly and rarely have a satisfying answer to hand, because the honest one involves emissions hardware nobody mentioned at the sale.
Not the Silencer Butterfly
Several Kawasakis also carry a servo-operated valve inside the exhaust, which is an entirely separate system with an entirely separate purpose. Confusing the two leads directly to ordering a part that will not fit anything.
