DescriptionThe whole story▼

Honda revived the Hornet name for the CB500 in 2023, and the bike does what the badge promises: light, willing and ridden hard by people who are still learning what they can do. Learning to brake well is easier when the lever is where your fingers are.

Key Features

  • Reach adjustable through 35 positions, set by hand
  • Central adjuster wheel, reachable from the riding position
  • Folding blade that swings clear instead of snapping off
  • Engineered break point inside the two-finger zone
  • Phosphated pivot seat, free of play from new
  • Road legal in Germany under ABE No. KBA 91203

What You Get

A blade machined from solid aluminium, black anodised, with a phosphated pivot seat. No play out of the box and none after a wet winter, which on a bike likely to be used year-round matters more than the finish does.

Modulation Before Power

On a 500 the front brake is not overwhelming, so what you are buying is feel rather than stopping distance. Feel comes from the first part of the travel, and where that starts depends entirely on reach. The central wheel sets it in 35 steps without tools.

A2 Riders and Lever Reach

This is an A2-legal bike, which means a lot of its riders are within their first years. A lever that can be brought in is one of the few upgrades that makes a rider genuinely better rather than merely faster.

Road Approval

Carries ABE No. KBA 91203 for German public roads. No entry in the vehicle documents and no inspection are needed; carry the printout from this page.
