The standard road element for this airbox is catalogued for nine Voge listings. This one is catalogued for five, and all five carry the same name: Valico. Sprint Filter does not explain its fitment lists, and nothing anywhere says why four machines built around the same housing were left off this one. The list is the statement. The people who measured the material decided where it belonged, and the Valico DS of 2020 came out on the short list.
Key Features
- Sprint Filter's finest medium: a dry polyester non-woven rated at 7 microns
- Rated flow of 560 l/m²/sec, against 5,050 for the standard road element in the same box
- Fibres laid in depth rather than woven, dry from new, with no oil at any point in its life
- Roughly double the filtering area of other performance elements, folded into the series housing
- Takes the paper panel's place with the airbox unmodified and the mapping left untouched
- Cleaned with compressed air and refitted instead of bought again; two years of warranty from purchase
A short list is a recommendation
Fitment lists are usually read as a mechanical question — will it go in? — and for most parts that is all they are. This one carries a second answer. The Voge machines missing from it share the housing, so nothing about their airboxes would stop this element seating in them. What keeps them off the list is a judgement about the air they are likely to meet, made by the manufacturer, not by a shop counter. Turned round, being on the list is about as close to an endorsement as a catalogue can get: of the Voge range built on this box, the Valico DS and DSX are the machines Sprint Filter thought worth 7 microns.
What seven microns costs
A great deal of flow, and the figure deserves no softening. The standard element in this housing is rated at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec; the CM251T12 is rated at 7 microns and 560. That is roughly a ninth of the air through a given area of material, the widest step anywhere in the Sprint Filter programme, and it is the entire price of the retention. Nor is anything here a power part: an element dropped into a series airbox will not add output to a standard Valico DS, and one built to hold air back is the least likely candidate of all. It is bought for what never reaches the engine.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, directed at the clean face so the load leaves by the route it came in, is the service the CM251T12 was designed around. Where a wet ride has turned dust into something stickier, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will shift it; rinse until the water comes away clear. Drying happens in open air and takes as long as it takes — a radiator, a hot air gun or a flame would finish the element for good — and it is refitted dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Voge Valico DS of 2020, seating in the standard airbox in place of the paper panel. Five listings share this element, the Valico DS and Valico DSX from 2020 through to 2026. The complete list is in the Fitment tab.
