Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 Air Filter for Racing – Voge Valico DS (2020) CM251S F1-85

The plainest fact about this element is what it asks for. In this fitment the racing weave costs roughly two and a half times the standard P08, and a multiple like that deserves an account rather than an adjective. It buys one property: the rate at which a square metre of cloth will pass air, three times higher, at an opening five microns wider. On a Voge Valico DS registered in 2020 it is worth asking, before anything is ordered, what the same outlay would buy for the very same airbox.

What the multiple buys

Capacity, and only capacity. The retention figures do not argue against it — at 100 microns the racing cloth measures a little better than the road one — but a higher rate can be spent only by an engine that is asking for it, held near the top of its range at full throttle for long stretches at a time. A Valico DS on a road is not doing that on any day of the year. And to be explicit about the ceiling: a drop-in element does not make a standard Valico DS noticeably stronger. Airbox, throttle bodies and mapping were signed off as one chain, and changing the cloth inside that chain does not rewrite it.

The same outlay, spent differently

The standard CM251S is the same dry polyester in the same frame, washable in the same way, at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec. Two of them come to less than one racing element, and a second panel removes the only genuine nuisance of a washable filter: drying time. A cloth that has been washed has to dry all the way through before it can go back, and that can take a day. With a spare on the shelf the box is shut again in ten minutes while the wet one dries at its own pace. That is a real convenience bought with the difference, rather than a rating this fitment will never call on.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air is the routine for the CM251S F1-85: aim it at the clean face so the dust travels back out instead of deeper into the weave. A wash follows only when the air has left something behind — lukewarm water, a mild detergent, rinsing until the water runs clear. It then dries in open air at its own pace, well away from heaters and flames, and goes back in dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads.
