Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Yamaha Vixion R 155 (2018–2026) PM198S

A Vixion R spends its life in a climate that treats air filters badly. Heavy rain, standing water and humid air are not exceptional conditions here, they are half the calendar, and a paper element deals with them by absorbing what it cannot pass. Wet paper does not recover; it swells, it loses what little strength it had, and it goes on restricting long after the road has dried. The Sprint Filter P08 PM198S is made of woven polyester and is deliberately washed as part of its normal service, which is a different relationship with water altogether — it is cleaned in it rather than ruined by it.

Water, and what a medium does with it

Cellulose fibre takes water in and holds it. Once that happens the element is not simply wet, it is a different filter: the passages it offered when dry have closed, and the engine goes on drawing through what is left until somebody replaces the part. Polyester behaves differently — it is dried in open air and refitted, and the same element continues on the other side of the wet season. If a machine works in genuinely persistent wet, Sprint Filter also weave a water-repellent medium, the P037, at 37 microns and 4,500 litres per square metre per second against the P08's 80 microns and 5,050. Finer holds more and passes less: that is the trade, and it is worth making deliberately rather than by accident.

Away from a main dealer network

The Vixion R is not sold everywhere the P08 is, and that is exactly the situation in which a consumable becomes a problem. A part that has to be ordered from another market arrives when it arrives; a part that is cleaned and put back arrives never, because it is already fitted. Sprint Filter design the element to last the life of the motorcycle, so the intake service turns into a task and stops being a supply question.

Care and cleaning

Water does this element no harm: lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until it runs clear, is the wash step whenever compressed air is not enough. The air comes first in the normal case, blown from the clean side outwards. What must not happen is drying by heat — no flame, no hot air — because open air and time are the method, and the element is refitted only once it is dry through. Nothing is oiled afterwards.
