Six of the seven machines that share this element are road motorcycles — the current Duke nakeds and the Husqvarna singles built beside them. The 390 Adventure is the seventh, and the only one on the list expected to spend time off the sealed road. It breathes through the housing those six were drawn around, because a filter element is shaped to a box rather than to an intention. That is not a fault in the part, only a fact the owner has to work with. PM293S puts dry woven polyester into that standard box in place of the paper panel, to be cleaned and refitted instead of renewed.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester rated at 80 microns, flowing 5,050 litres per square metre per second
- Threads from ø 22 microns — the figure describes the yarn itself, not the gap between yarns
- Filtering area roughly double that of other performance filters
- No oil at any stage of its life, so nothing can travel forward onto a sensor
- Straight exchange for the original panel in the unmodified airbox, with no remapping
- Two years of warranty running from the date of purchase
One airbox, two kinds of week
A part number cannot tell a commuter from a farm track, and one code is listed against every machine the housing fits. What separates the 390 Adventure from its six stablemates is not the air it is able to draw but the air it is likely to meet — dry unsealed surfaces, its own dust hanging behind it, and long stretches where nothing washes the day off. The element will not adapt to that. The one thing that can is how often it is looked at, and a washable medium is what turns looking into a decision rather than a purchase.
What the exchange actually buys
Not power. Nothing dropped into a standard airbox makes a homologated single quicker, and a page that claims otherwise is selling something. What this medium offers is an intake restriction that begins low and can be brought back to that value with compressed air, service after service, instead of climbing steadily until another panel is bought. Across a machine kept for years, that is the difference between an intake at its best for a few weeks after each service and one at its best for most of the time between them.
Care and cleaning
Drive compressed air through the PM293S from the clean face outward, so the load leaves the way it came in. Once it holds more than air will shift, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it in open air alone, well away from heat and flame, and refit it only when it is dry right through. There is no oiling step anywhere in the routine. Sprint Filter's illustrated maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the KTM 390 Adventure built from 2024 to 2026, which shares this airbox with the current 390 Duke. Seven machines across KTM and Husqvarna carry the code, and the Fitment tab lists them in full. A 390 Adventure from 2020 to 2023 is a different motorcycle under the same name and takes an earlier Sprint Filter element, so settle the model year before ordering.
