DescriptionThe whole story

The heat shield on this system is forged carbon fibre, and it is the first time Akrapovic has used that technology on a motorcycle part. Forged carbon is not woven cloth — it is chopped fibre pressed under heat, which produces the marbled pattern found on high-end supercar trim and, until now, not on exhausts.

Key Features

  • Forged carbon fibre heat shield — Akrapovic's first use of the technology in the motorcycle sector, and it is in the box, not an option
  • Shaped with a deliberate resemblance to the Akrapovic exhaust built for the Yamaha R1 Superbike
  • High-grade lightweight titanium for the link pipe, end cap and muffler outer sleeve, sandblasted for an even matt finish
  • EC and ECE type approved
  • 93.8 dB at 5,600 rpm against the standard 93.7 dB — a tenth of a decibel, and a completely different voice
  • Also mounts on the MT-10 SP and the MT-10 Tourer Edition
  • Plug-and-play in about 30 minutes with no remapping

Forged Carbon, and Why It Is Here

Woven carbon fibre is laid up in sheets and follows the shape of a mould. Forged carbon uses short fibres compressed in a die, which lets it be moulded into shapes a woven layup cannot hold and gives a random, marbled appearance instead of a regular weave. On a heat shield sitting right where the eye lands on an MT-10, that difference is the point.

The rest of the system is titanium — link pipe, end cap and outer sleeve, all sandblasted. The silhouette deliberately echoes the R1 Superbike system, which on Yamaha's crossplane naked is exactly the reference an owner wants.

What the Dyno Says

0.8 PS at 11,200 rpm and 0.9 Nm at 8,500 rpm. Small numbers on a 998 cc four that already makes 155 PS, and they are stated as they were measured. Akrapovic publishes no weight figure for this system, so none is claimed here either.

The SP Takes It Too

Yamaha's MT-10 SP sits on semi-active Öhlins suspension and wears its own blue paint, but the engine, the frame and the exhaust mounting are shared with the standard MT-10. This silencer fits both, and the forged carbon end cap reads as intended against the SP's finish as much as against the base bike's matt grey.

Two practical notes. No removable noise insert is supplied with this unit, so the sound level is fixed as built. Installation is 30 minutes on either version and needs no remapping.

Fitment and Compatibility

S-Y10SO20-HAPLT covers the Yamaha MT-10 and FZ-10 from model year 2022 through 2024, and Akrapovic confirms it mounts on the MT-10 SP and the Tourer Edition as well. Three optional parts exist: a titanium link pipe and collector L-Y10SO19/2, a carbon heat shield P-HSY10SO6 and a noise damper V-TUV050/4.

Road Approval

EC type approval and ECE type approval, certificates supplied and downloadable here. With a measured level a tenth of a decibel from standard, the legal position is straightforward.
