DescriptionThe whole story▼

Used properly, the rear brake of an F 800 R is not an emergency control but a steadying one. It settles the bike as you turn in, it holds the speed down a long gradient so the front is not left to do everything, and with a passenger aboard it keeps the whole machine from feeling nose-heavy. Accossato's Sintered (ST) material on the AGPP91 pad suits that job on the BMW F 800 R of 2009 to 2018 in whatever weather the ride produces.

Key Features

  • Rear pads in the Sintered (ST) compound, article number AGPP91ST
  • Covers the BMW F 800 R from 2009 to 2018
  • Accossato describes a grip level that does not shift with temperature and holds up on a wet disc
  • Suited to trailing the pedal on descents and riding two up
  • Two pads per box; the rear has a single caliper
  • OR and STMX materials sit on the same plate
  • Front pads for this model: AGPA177, from 2015
  • No German ABE, no test certificate; competition part

Construction and Material Quality

What Accossato claims for this material is a grip level that does not move about. Cold or hot, it offers the same thing, and a wet disc does not change the answer either. A rear pad is asked for precisely that: not a great deal of force, but the same amount of it every time your foot goes down, because a rear wheel that locks by surprise is far more disruptive than a front brake arriving slightly early. The AGPP91 plate is common to the whole family and the material decides the article number. Two pads to a box, one box to a caliper, and at the rear of this bike there is one.

Trailing the Pedal Down a Long Hill

Descending a mountain road two up is where riders work out what the rear brake is actually for. A low gear lets the engine take the first share, the front brake takes the largest, and the rear goes on in small, steady amounts to keep the bike settled and stop it running on between hairpins. Used that way the rear pads are in contact far more often than a stopwatch would suggest, and they spend the entire descent in the warmth, dust and spray coming off the road. Wet weather makes the picture busier still. What helps is a material that does not change its mind halfway down, together with the discipline to release the pedal fully between bends instead of leaving a permanent drag on it. At the bottom of the pass, check that the pedal returns cleanly to its stop; a lazy return generally points at a dirty pivot rather than at the pads.

Fitment and Compatibility

The AGPP91 is Accossato's rear pad for the BMW F 800 R from 2009 to 2018, which is the whole run of the model as the catalogue gives it, while the front pad in the same entry starts only in 2015. One box is the complete rear set, two pads for the single caliper, and pads on an axle are always renewed in pairs. The plate also comes with OR and STMX material, and the discs catalogued for the F 800 R are DK006 and DK007.

Road Approval

Neither a German ABE nor any other approval document exists for the AGPP91ST in our files. Accordingly it is supplied for closed-circuit riding and for competition.

Scope of Delivery

Two AGPP91 pads in the Sintered (ST) compound, boxed as the set for the rear caliper.
