DescriptionThe whole story▼
Aprilia took the name Caponord, Italian for the North Cape, and gave it to a touring bike that shares its V-twin with the Dorsoduro 1200. A name like that promises long distances, usually with side cases, a top box and often a passenger on board. The Accossato EDB080 replaces the front brake lever of the Caponord 1200 with a CNC-machined aluminium part that mounts on the original master cylinder, offers an adjustable distance to the grip and comes in three blade lengths. Accossato lists it for the 2014 to 2017 model years.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Aprilia Caponord 1200, listed 2014 to 2017
- Mounts on the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Adjuster near the pivot sets the distance to the grip
- Standard blade of approximately 138 mm in all seven colours
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange and silver; long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, with a black hub
- One rigid piece without a folding joint
- No German ABE documented; sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The EDB080 is not cast and trimmed afterwards. It is milled out of a solid block of aluminium on CNC machines and then anodised in two tones. The hub, home to the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, is black on every version; the blade carries the colour you pick. With no hinge between hub and tip, nothing in the lever gives way when you brake a fully laden Caponord 1200 hard at the end of a motorway exit.
Three Cases and a Full Tank
A loaded tourer brakes differently from the same bike ridden solo. Luggage, a brimmed tank and a passenger add mass that the brakes have to slow down, so every stop needs more distance and rewards an earlier, calmer start. On a packed Caponord 1200 the useful habit is to open with a light touch that lets the fork compress and the load settle onto the front tyre, and only then to build pressure in one steady movement.
That opening touch is where lever position counts. With the blade too far out, your fingers reach it only after a stretch, and the first contact tends to arrive as a jab. Brought in so the fingertips rest on it with the knuckles slightly bent, the first millimetres become easy to meter. For heavy luggage, the long blade in blue, gold, green or orange gives four fingers room and a little more leverage at the tip. The standard length, about 138 mm and made in every colour, stays closest to what Aprilia fitted, while the short blade suits riders who keep braking with two fingers however much the bike is carrying.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list names this motorcycle as ETV 1200 Caponord, with the years 2014 to 2017. The EDB080 goes onto the original front master cylinder in place of the standard lever. The same reference also appears for the supermoto-styled Dorsoduro 1200, the bike that supplied the engine. For the left hand on the Caponord 1200, Accossato makes the ESC080 clutch lever for the same four model years, so both sides can be ordered in one colour.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the EDB080. We therefore offer this brake lever for track riding.
