DescriptionThe whole story

Touring braking is a marathon problem, and the Kawasaki Z1000SX is built for the marathon. The reference is the T004 - 50.0 mm of friction height over 71.5 mm of length, on the Tokico fitment the Z1000SX uses. What the T004 carries is EX Race: a ceramic sinter tuned for proportionality over attack.

Key Features

  • Consistent friction from the first lap to the wear limit, so the braking marker set on a cold Z1000SX still means the same thing when it is hot
  • No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this compound - treat the T004 as a track and competition part
  • Two pads per pack, matched as a set for one Tokico caliper
  • Shipped in ZCOO's own packaging with the ZRM-T004C code printed on it, so a repeat order needs no guesswork
  • The T004 is one of 16 shapes ZCOO builds; this is the one your Tokico caliper takes
  • Predictable in the wet, because the compound does not need temperature to start working on a Z1000SX

Construction and Material Quality

Manufacture is Japanese and unchanged across the range, the T004 included. At 8.5 mm the T004 carries its ceramic layer on a plate cut to fill the Tokico caliper window exactly. None of it is visible once the T004 is in the Tokico caliper, which is precisely the point.

Performance and Feel

The initial bite of the T004 in EX Race is measured rather than sharp. Force follows the Z1000SX lever from the first millimetre of travel rather than arriving in a step. For a tourer like the Z1000SX that is worth more than any headline figure.

Fitment and Compatibility

Listed by ZCOO for the Kawasaki Z1000SX, model years 2011 to 2023, on the Tokico caliper. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 71.5 mm length and 50.0 mm height. The same T004 shape covers 18 further machines in the 2026 catalogue. The reference is a front pad; ZCOO lists no rear equivalent.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
