A Street Scrambler is bought at least partly on a promise about surfaces: the high pipe, the braced bars. For an air filter what counts is not the promise but the odometer's version of it — how many of your kilometres are genuinely unsealed, and what kind of unsealed they are. Sprint Filter offers this same element in several media for exactly that reason, and the P14 PM174P14 sits in the middle of the ladder: 14 microns of retention at an air flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, where the road-standard P08 works at 80 microns and 5,050.
Key Features
- Made for dust: 14 microns of retention, with 1,800 l/m²/sec of air flow
- About twice as much filtering surface as other performance filters carry
- Dry non-woven material, never oiled, so nothing can migrate onto the air sensor or throttle bodies
- Straight into the standard airbox — no modification, no remap, homologation untouched
- No consumables: compressed air from the clean side, and the element goes back in
- A two-year warranty from purchase, on a part meant to last the life of the motorcycle
Choosing the rung honestly
The media form a line, not a ranking, and every step along it costs airflow to buy retention. The P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec is the one for tarmac and track. The P14 at 14 microns and 1,800 l/m²/sec is for dust: farm tracks in August, gravel forest roads, the long dry back roads that make up most of what a Street Scrambler actually does off the main route. The T12 at 7 microns and 560 l/m²/sec exists for genuine off-road and desert use, and if that is your riding it is the one to look at rather than this. Choose by the ground under the tyres, not by the styling on the tank.
Why the dusty answer here is not an oiled one
The traditional response to dust is an oiled cotton filter, and it is the wrong direction on a modern fuel-injected twin for two separate reasons. The first is retention: in Sprint Filter's own comparison, a four-layer oiled cotton element held back 76.42 per cent of 100-micron particles, against 93.13 per cent for the dry P08 — the medium that this P14 is finer than. The second is what oil does when it leaves the filter. A film in the intake tract does not stay put; it collects on the air sensor and on throttle bodies. Every Sprint Filter medium is dry for that reason, and is regenerated with compressed air rather than re-oiled after every dusty ride.
Care and cleaning
After dusty riding, blow the PM174P14 out with compressed air from the clean side, working outwards, and refit it dry — more often than the service book asks, since it costs nothing. A heavier load wants lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. Dry it fully in open air, never with heat or flame. No oil at any stage. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Street Scrambler from 2016 to 2026. One element covers five machines on this airbox, so it stays a current part throughout the model's long production run. The complete list is in the Fitment tab.
