The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
An air filter is drawn for an airbox, and an airbox has to satisfy every engine that will ever sit behind it. This one is catalogued for the Kove 450 RR and, from 2025, for a nominally larger machine as well. Whatever headroom the element was given, the 450 RR sits at the gentler end of the range it has to cover — worth knowing before deciding that the racing medium is the missing piece. It is a real racing part with a real purpose, and that purpose is not simply being the best item on the list.
Key Features
- Dry polyester racing medium spun from threads of 22 µm and up
- Material flow of 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest Sprint Filter publishes for motorcycles
- Approximately double the filtering area of other performance elements
- Never oiled, so a session can follow a clean immediately with nothing to cure
- Uses the original airbox and the original panel position, with no modification
- Serviced with compressed air, reusable, guaranteed for two years
What competition use actually asks of a filter
In racing the demands on the element are not the ones a road rider imagines. Flow matters because everything ahead of the engine has been examined and opened where the rules permit. Servicing speed matters because the part comes out and goes back in between sessions, sometimes twice in a day. Predictability matters most of all: an element whose condition depends on how well someone applied a treatment is a variable, and variables get eliminated. A dry fabric that is blown through and refitted is one less thing that can quietly change between qualifying and the race. By Sprint Filter's own account this family of media is the one behind their presence in grand prix and superbike paddocks, which is a manufacturer's claim rather than an independent test, and it describes the intended environment plainly enough.
The part where we talk you out of it
On a standard road-registered 450 RR this element is more filter than the intake can use, and the standard road fabric or the fine dust mat will serve the machine better for what it does. No air filter of any kind, fitted inside an unmodified airbox, makes a standard motorcycle noticeably more powerful — what it offers is a lower intake resistance that stays put between cleanings. If the bike is raced, that changes: the flow headroom stops being theoretical, and the servicing routine starts paying for itself every weekend.
Care and cleaning
Between outings, compressed air on the clean face pushed outward is all it needs. After a dirty meeting, wash the SM261S F1-85 in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse it until clear. Drying happens in open air and nowhere near a heat gun or a flame; the element is refitted dry, with no oil. The maintenance sheet is available in the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Fits the Kove 450 RR of 2023 to 2026 in its standard airbox. The same element covers the ZXMoto 500RR from 2025 to 2026 as well, two machines in all; the Fitment tab lists both with their year ranges.
