The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a fully faired sports bike the air filter is the part furthest from a casual glance. Reaching it means taking bodywork off in a particular order and putting it back the same way, which is not a two-minute job on any Panigale, and jobs of that size have a habit of slipping. That is the argument for the element in this listing, and it is a maintenance argument rather than a performance one. PM279S is the dry, washable polyester filter for the 2025 and 2026 Panigale V2 — the part behind the panels that gets cleaned back to its starting condition instead of being consumed.
Key Features
- A single dry layer of woven polyester, supplied without oil and kept that way for life
- 80 µm aperture and a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, Sprint Filter's road and track specification
- Polyester threads of ø 22 microns and upwards; the aperture is the separate, larger number
- Roughly double the surface area of other performance filters within the standard frame
- Direct replacement for the series panel — the airbox is untouched and the mapping is left alone
- Restored with compressed air instead of replaced, two years of warranty from the date of purchase
The sentence that has to come first
A drop-in filter does not make a standard Panigale V2 quicker. Intake tract, throttle bodies, injection and exhaust were developed together and homologated together with a filter already in the path, and no element sold for an unmodified housing rewrites that work. Anyone offering lap times from an air filter is selling something other than an air filter. What is genuinely on offer is narrower and more durable: one known intake resistance, restored on demand, for as long as the motorcycle stays in use.
Which is exactly why access matters
Take those two facts together — the part is awkward to reach, and its specification is fixed — and the property worth having is repeatability. A paper panel begins at its lowest restriction and rises from there until somebody replaces it, so its condition depends entirely on when the bodywork last came off. This one has a floor it returns to. The panels still have to come off, but what goes back in afterwards is not a slightly older version of what was there before.
Care and cleaning
With the element out, compressed air from the clean face outwards is the whole of a normal service; work steadily across the surface rather than concentrating on one area. A season of road grime that resists air comes away with warm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water clears. Then it dries in ambient air, entirely — no heat is applied at any stage and no flame goes near it — and it is refitted dry, with no oil and no spray.
