What It Is
Öhlins publishes 15 mm, 28 mm, 5.5 mm for 00838-02 — the dimensions are the identity of the part. A spacer that is a millimetre short changes the preload on a shim stack, and with it the damping. These are the parts that are easy to lose on the bench and impossible to improvise afterwards. Stainless where corrosion matters, hardened where load matters — the choice is made per position.
Why the Original
An original part keeps the unit within its published specification; a near-equivalent quietly moves it. Öhlins manufactures service parts on the same lines as production parts — there is no second quality. The Öhlins exploded view names the number for each position; we can look it up if you do not have it. If you are between two sizes, send us the measurement and we will check it against the catalogue.
Identifying the Right Part
Öhlins identifies this position by the number 00838-02 in the exploded view for the unit it belongs to. Check dimension a 15 mm, dimension b 28 mm, dimension c 5.5 mm against what you have removed; a close size is not the same part. These are the parts that are easy to lose on the bench and impossible to improvise afterwards. Retaining rings come in a groove-specific thickness — the next size does not hold.
Fitting and Setup Service
We are an authorised Öhlins service centre, so you do not have to source the tools and the nitrogen: send us the damper and we rebuild it with the correct parts and the correct setting.
