Where It Sits
Öhlins publishes 12 mm, 216 mm for 00101-04 — the dimensions are the identity of the part. Chrome or nitride treatment is what lets the shaft run in a seal for thousands of kilometres. Öhlins hardens and surface-treats its shafts because a scratch on the running surface takes the seal with it. Its polished section runs directly in the seal, so any mark there ends the seal's life quickly.
Original Öhlins Part
An original part keeps the unit within its published specification; a near-equivalent quietly moves it. The part is identical to what Öhlins fits in production — same supplier, same specification. Order by part number — descriptions repeat across sizes, numbers do not. Where a number has been superseded, Öhlins states the replacement — we pass that on.
Getting the Number Right
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 00101-04 in this case. The published dimensions are diameter 12 mm, length 216 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Shafts are not shortened or extended; the length is the specification. Shaft diameter sets the volume displaced into the reservoir on every compression stroke.
Fitting and Setup Service
A damper rebuild is workshop work: it needs the unit dismantled, the shim stack rebuilt in the correct order and the gas charge reset. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and do exactly that in house — send us the unit or ask us to fit the part with your order.
