DescriptionThe whole story▼

A lot of racers who move up through the smaller classes get their first laps on a Kawasaki Ninja 400, built from 2018, and one of the first jobs on the prep list is removing the emissions-era AIS air injection system that has no place on a bike built to be light and simple on track. Melotti Racing's aluminium AIS Valve Cover closes the hole that job leaves behind, built specifically around this Ninja 400 engine.

Key Features

  • AIS valve cover for the Kawasaki Ninja 400, 2018 onward
  • Melotti part AIS.KA.4181
  • Aluminium construction, essential for track bikes removing the AIS system
  • Can be fitted without removing the reed valves, reusing their existing gasket
  • Rubber plug included to close the air-box opening
  • Kit includes one cover
  • Black finish

Construction and Material Quality

Melotti machines the AIS.KA.4181 in aluminium, built to close off exactly the opening left once a Ninja 400's air injection system is stripped out for track use. It is designed so the reed valves underneath never have to come out: the cover reuses their existing gasket, which saves a step in the strip-down and avoids a part that otherwise has to be sourced separately when a gasket is disturbed unnecessarily. A rubber plug supplied with the cover seals the matching hole left in the air box, so the induction side of the engine stays sealed once the AIS lines themselves are gone.

A First Step for a Young Racer's 400

For a rider or parent preparing a Ninja 400 for a first season in a junior or lightweight class, the AIS removal is usually one of the earliest jobs on the list, well before anything to do with suspension or gearing, because most series simply will not scrutineer a bike with the emissions hardware still fitted. Melotti built this cover to make that step as uneventful as possible: no extra machining on the cylinder head, no new gasket to hunt down, just the cover, its own seal and the supplied air-box plug going on in place of the parts that come off. It is a small, inexpensive change, but it is usually the first one a new racer's Ninja 400 goes through.

Fitment and Compatibility

Melotti lists the AIS.KA.4181 for the Kawasaki Ninja 400 from 2018 onward, and our listing follows that range. The part is sold as a single cover, matching the one AIS valve position on this engine; it is not a kit of two. It pairs naturally with Melotti's steering limiter for the same bike as part of an early race-prep order.

Road Approval

We hold no ABE for the AIS.KA.4181, and removing the AIS system it replaces is not something that can be registered for road use. It is supplied for racetrack and closed-circuit use, and club race organisers set their own technical rules.

Scope of Delivery
