The M Profile
Drawn around a one-piece handlebar rather than clip-ons. On a naked bike the cables leave the throttle at an entirely different angle and a dedicated body follows it.
A Hundred and Nine Horsepower
From 821 cc, tuned for midrange rather than peak. It is the Monster most people bought and the one that persuaded a lot of riders that a Ducati could be an everyday motorcycle.
Three Riding Modes
Sport, Touring and Urban, with the last dropping the engine to 75 horsepower. On a bike used in traffic every day that is a genuinely useful setting rather than a marketing one.
Housing Only
The switch block is unaffected. This is the throttle assembly by itself, which suits an owner whose electrics are healthy and who wants better than moulded plastic.
Where the Tube Turns
A machined bore keeps the rotation smooth long after an injection-moulded housing has developed a small amount of play against the grip.
Black Anodised
Converted into the aluminium. On a bike that lives outdoors, an anodised surface handles years of weather in a way no coating manages.
Ergal 7075
At roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined alloy. It is harder to cut and it holds a clamping face on a bar for the life of the motorcycle.
A Trellis, Still
Ducati kept the steel frame on the 821 long after the superbikes had abandoned it. On a Monster it is structure and styling at the same time, which is why it survived.
The Everyday Ducati
An 821 is frequently its owner's only motorcycle, which means winter, rain and road salt. Whatever is on the handlebar has to survive that rather than a season of dry Sundays.
