DescriptionThe whole story▼
The XSR700 is the MT-07 in period clothes. The JP PLS 053 replaces its left-hand switch with a body machined from Ergal 7075.
Key Features
- Yamaha XSR700 (2016–2018)
- Full street control set
- Blue, red, titanium or black anodising
- CNC-milled Ergal 7075
- Sealed switch elements
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
Sport Heritage
Yamaha took the MT-07's chassis and engine and dressed them in brushed aluminium, a round headlight and a flat seat. The XSR700 is not a retro pastiche so much as a straightforward motorcycle with the plastic removed, which is most of its appeal.
Metal Where It Shows
The tank side panels are aluminium, the mudguards are metal and the details are deliberately unpainted. Into that setting the moulded switch housing is the one component that gives away the year of manufacture.
A Machined Part Belongs Here
Controls on the motorcycles the XSR references were made of metal. An anodised aluminium body cut from solid does not pretend to be a period item, and it sits far better among brushed panels than injection-moulded plastic does.
Four Anodised Finishes
Blue, red, titanium and black. Titanium is the natural choice against the XSR's raw aluminium; blue picks up the Yamaha racing scheme on the bikes wearing it.
The Original Cluster
Two mouldings clipped around the handlebar, shared with the MT-07 and several other models. It works perfectly well and it is the cheapest-feeling thing on a motorcycle that otherwise makes a virtue of material quality.
Ridden in the Weather
Modern classics in Europe accumulate real mileage rather than sitting indoors. Sealed elements inside a housing with no moulded seam are what keep the controls accurate through several winters of that.
Three Model Years
The fitment covers 2016 to 2018, before the Euro 4 revision changed the lighting and the instruments. The later bike takes a different part.
