The Restyle That Worked
Yamaha gave the R3 inverted KYB forks, R6-derived bodywork and lower clip-ons for 2019. The engine was untouched and it did not need to be; the changes were about how the motorcycle steers and how it looks, and both improved considerably.
Six Model Years
The fitment covers 2019 to 2024, a long run for a small bike in a fast-moving class. Yamaha changed almost nothing across it, which is convenient when buying parts for a used example.
Entry-Level Racing
The R3 fills novice grids across Europe, and those machines are prepared with more care than their price suggests. Cockpit components are part of that, because a control found by feel is worth a tenth to a rider still learning where their attention goes.
Learning by Touch
A rider early in their career builds habits around whatever is under their hands. A control with a defined physical boundary is easier to learn than one relying on a printed symbol, which is a small argument and a real one on a first bike.
Ridden Through Winter
Small motorcycles do disproportionate commuting duty and are often parked outdoors. Sealed elements inside a housing with no moulded joint are the specification that actually decides how the switch feels in year three.
Dropped in Car Parks
Low-speed falls are the commonest damage on a bike in this class. A milled Ergal body scuffs where a moulded housing splits at the clamp, which over a couple of seasons is a real saving.
Black Anodised
One finish, converted into the surface rather than laid on top. Against the R3's dark cockpit it belongs, and a knock dulls it rather than leaving a bright mark.
