The K46 as a Track Bike
The 2015 to 2018 S1000RR is now the generation most likely to be found stripped of its lights and running on slicks. It is fast enough to be competitive at club level, cheap enough to crash without ruining a season, and supported by an aftermarket that has had a decade to mature. A dedicated race cluster is one of the standard fittings on such a build.
Why the Road Controls Come Off
Once the indicators are gone from the bodywork, the buttons that operated them are worse than useless: they occupy the positions the thumb searches. Removing them widens the gaps between the controls that remain, which is the whole point. A race switch is a smaller set of larger targets.
Generation-Specific Wiring
This part is wired for the K46 connector. The 2009 bike before it and the 2019 ShiftCam machine after it both use different arrangements, and none of the three is interchangeable. Getting the generation right at the point of order avoids a switch that bolts on perfectly and does nothing.
Four Colours on a Bike That Gets Crashed
Black, blue, red and titanium. Anodising is a surface conversion rather than a coating, so a low-speed slide scuffs the finish without stripping it back to bright aluminium. On a motorcycle that will eventually go down, that matters more than the colour itself.
Fitting It During a Track Conversion
This switch usually goes on at the same time as the race bodywork and the rearsets, once the lights have come off and the indicator stalks with them. Doing it in that order means the cockpit is only stripped once, and the redundant buttons never have to be lived with.
