DescriptionThe whole story▼
The exhaust hanger is the bracket that carries the silencer off the subframe. It is a small part doing an unglamorous structural job: holding several kilograms of hot metal at the end of a lever arm, against engine vibration, for the life of the motorcycle.
Key Features
- Exhaust hanger bracket, direct replacement for the original
- 245 Twill weave in clear coat or matt
- Autoclave-cured laminate, stiff in the plane the silencer loads it
- Original mounting points and fasteners, exhaust untouched
- Covers the 2009-2016 model run in one article
A Structural Bracket, Not a Cover
Most small carbon parts hide something. This one holds something up, which changes what matters about it. The relevant property is stiffness in bending, because a hanger that flexes lets the silencer move, and a silencer that moves works its mounting rubbers and its own fasteners loose over a season.
Autoclave curing is what produces the fibre fraction that keeps a part this size rigid. On a decorative cover the difference is academic; on a load path it is the reason to buy a properly made part.
Fitment and Compatibility
BMW S1000RR, model years 2009 to 2016, on the original hanger mounting points. Machines fitted with an aftermarket exhaust system usually come with their own hanger and will not need this one.
Road Approval
Fullsix publishes neither an ABE nor an EC type-approval number for this part. It carries the silencer rather than forming part of the exhaust system, but exhaust mounting can be relevant to type approval in some markets, so confirm the position for your own registration.
Torque, and Why Less Is More
Composite brackets fail at the fastener, crushed under a washer by somebody applying a steel-bracket torque figure. Once the material is crushed the joint loosens permanently and no amount of retightening fixes it.
Use the original fastener, the original washer and the manufacturer's figure for the standard bracket. Check it again after the first hundred kilometres, which is good practice on anything that carries an exhaust regardless of what it is made of.
