The Multistrada 1200 was built for long days in the saddle, and for many owners a long day sooner or later includes a ferry. Corsica, Sardinia, Norway or Greece: the bike rides up a ramp into the car deck, the crew straps it down, and for a few hours it moves with the ship. Most crossings pass without incident, but a rough sea can shift a bike against its straps or tip it over, and the ends of the handlebar are what meet the deck first. For the Multistrada 1200 of 2010 to 2016, Accossato offers the AGD209, a black replacement brake lever in the original form.

Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, based in Villastellone near Turin, keeps its description of the AGD209 short. The lever is a spare of the original type, shaped after the one Ducati fitted, so the right-hand side of the Multistrada 1200 keeps its familiar look after the repair. The company says it designed these levers to be good value for money, and it credits the way they are produced with giving them more resistance once they have been damaged or the bike has gone down. That is the full extent of the published information. There is no word on material, dimensions or production method, and we add nothing of our own. The colour is black.
Lashed Down on the Car Deck
On most ferries the routine is much the same. Motorcycles are waved to a corner of the car deck and secured by the crew, usually with a strap over the seat and rings in the floor. You can help them. Put the Multistrada 1200 in first gear before switching off, leave it on the side stand unless you are told otherwise, and lay a cloth or a glove over the seat where the strap will press. Make sure no strap runs across the brake lever or pulls the handlebar hard against its stop, because a lever that is squeezed or bent for hours in a rolling sea can be damaged before the bike ever falls. Take what you need for the crossing with you, since passengers are normally not allowed back onto the car deck until the ship docks. When you return, look at the right side of the handlebar before you start the engine. The exit ramp is often steep and wet, and the first thing you need at the bottom is a front brake that works exactly as it should. If the lever is bent, it is time for a new one, not for pliers and a bit of force.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGD209 for the Multistrada 1200 from 2010 to 2016, a span that covers the first generation and the DVT models that followed from 2015, and it is the only replacement brake lever on the list for this bike. On the clutch side there are two options, the silver AGS199 for 2010 to 2016 and the black AGS200 for 2010 to 2017; the colour of the lever now fitted tells you which one to choose.
