DescriptionThe whole story▼
Riding a big adventure bike nose-first up into a sloping parking space takes a second. Leaving is slower, because the R 1200 GS now has to roll backwards down the gradient, and while you sit astride it with both feet on the ground, the front brake is the only thing controlling its speed. A boot that slips on gravel or wet grass, or a sudden grab at the lever with the bars turned, and the bike is on its side. For the R 1200 GS of 2004 to 2016, Accossato offers the AGD305, a black replacement brake lever in the original form.

Construction and Material Quality
The AGD305 is a spare, not a styling part. It follows the form of the lever BMW designed for the R 1200 GS, so the bike looks unchanged once it is fitted. Accossato's reasoning is simple: a lever that is likely to meet the ground now and then should be affordable, so the company designed its original-type levers around value for money, and it states that its manufacturing process leaves them more resistant after an impact or a fall. The AGD305 is black. Accossato, founded in 1969 in Moncalieri near Turin, publishes no further data on it.
Rolling Back Down a Slope
The technique is worth practising before you need it. Sit on the R 1200 GS with the engine off and neutral selected, both feet flat on the ground, and straighten the handlebar before the bike starts to move, because a turned front wheel combined with a sudden stop is a classic recipe for a fall. Release the brake a little at a time and let the slope do the work in short steps, stopping with gentle, progressive pressure rather than a snatch. If the ground is loose or the gradient steep, ask someone to steady the rear, or next time turn the bike round on level ground before you park. When it has gone over, lift it with your legs, check the master cylinder for leaks and look closely at the lever: a bent one should be replaced, never bent back. After fitting the AGD305 with a cleaned and lightly greased pivot, pull it several times with the bike stationary, check that the brake light comes on and feel for a firm pressure point that does not change.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGD305 across several generations of the R 1200 GS: 2004 to 2007, 2008 to 2009 and 2010 to 2012, each with and without ABS, and the ABS bikes of 2013 to 2016. That span takes in the air- and oil-cooled bikes as well as the first years of the liquid-cooled model. No other replacement brake lever is named for the GS, but because the list covers such different machines, comparing the product photo with your own lever before ordering is sensible. We also carry the AGD305 for the R nineT, the R 1200 RS and the F 700 GS. Accossato's CNC levers EDB001 and EDB077 are the tuning alternative on the brake side.
Road Approval
Neither a German ABE nor a test mark has been documented to us for this lever. The AGD305 is therefore offered for racing and competition.
