DescriptionThe whole story▼
Behind the R1's cross-plane engine sits a chassis built to put power down out of slow corners, and that same ability to spin the rear tyre under hard acceleration can catch an overconfident rider on a damp or cold track surface. A rear-end slide that starts as a small step out of the seat can escalate quickly if the throttle stays open a moment too long, ending with the bike sliding away from underneath its rider rather than simply running wide. Accossato lists the PP019 rear axle sliders for the R1 of 2015 to 2018.
Key Features
- Rear axle sliders for the Yamaha R1, 2015 to 2018
- Accossato PP019, a left and a right protector
- Aluminium and plastic construction, black
- Spacers, screws and remaining mounting parts in the kit, as stated by Accossato
- PF046 front sliders and TP018/TP025 crash pads also listed for this bike
- Sacrificial parts, renewed after a heavy impact
- Same pair listed for the MT-10, MT-10 SP and R1M
- No German ABE documented; offered for racing
Construction and Material Quality
Both PP019 protectors share the same aluminium-and-plastic build in black, sized for the left and right side at the rear of the R1. According to Accossato, the box also holds the spacers, screws and whatever else mounting calls for. Should a rear-end step under hard acceleration turn into a genuine slide, these sliders are positioned to reach the ground ahead of the swingarm and the rear axle area, taking some of what those parts would otherwise suffer. Once a slider has clearly done that job, swap it for a new one rather than trusting it a second time.
A Rear-End Step That Goes Too Far
Modern electronics help manage wheelspin on the R1, but they cannot remove the fundamental fact that a cross-plane engine delivers its power in a way that can overwhelm the rear tyre's grip on a cold or damp track, particularly out of slower corners where the throttle opens hardest. A small step from the rear is often recoverable, and experienced riders use it deliberately, but a step that continues past a certain point becomes a genuine slide, and the bike can go down before the rider has time to shut the throttle fully. The sliders at the rear exist for that outcome, taking the first contact so the swingarm and the rear axle area are spared some of it. After such a fall, a careful check of the chain, the sliders and the swingarm is needed before the R1 returns to the track.
Fitment and Compatibility
The years behind the PP019 on an R1 run from 2015 to 2018 by Accossato's own account, and we have kept to that span. The PF046 sliders take care of the front, and the fairing itself can be fitted with either the TP018 or the newer TP025 pads depending on the bike's age. This rear slider is also catalogued in our shop for the MT-10, the MT-10 SP and the R1M. Ask us to check your R1 before ordering if the years do not clearly match.
Road Approval
No ABE or test mark has been supplied to us for the PP019, so we list it for racing and competition purposes.
