DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nobody would call the Panigale 1199 S a touring bike, and that is exactly why some owners enjoy taking one on a long trip: a few days in the mountains with a small bag strapped to the tail, a change of clothes and little else. What such a trip lacks is room for extras, and a bottle of engine oil is usually the first thing left at home. That makes the check before departure all the more important. For the 1199 S of 2012 to 2015, Tricolore included, Accossato makes the FP004, an aluminium oil filler cap with an M20x2.5 thread in eight anodised colours.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Ducati Panigale 1199 S, 2012 to 2015
- Tricolore and ABS versions also on Accossato's list
- M20x2.5 thread, as given by Accossato
- Aluminium, shaped on CNC machines and anodised
- Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
- Suits other motorcycles with the same cap size, after a check
- Matching FP007 clutch cover available for the same bike
- No German ABE on file; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
CNC machines cut the FP004 from aluminium, and anodising then adds the colour. Accossato offers it in blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium and gold, and gives one dimension, the M20x2.5 thread. According to the maker, that thread is what lets the cap serve not only the listed bikes but any motorcycle with a filler of the same size. On a Panigale 1199 S, whose electronically adjustable suspension already sets it apart from the base model, the cap is a quieter kind of detail, something you notice when crouching beside the engine rather than from across a car park.
A Superbike on Tour
The day before the trip, give the Panigale 1199 S its oil check at home, where you have level ground, good light and time. Let the engine cool completely, hold the bike as the owner's manual prescribes and read the level carefully. If it needs topping up, clean around the filler first, keep dirt out of the opening and add oil in small amounts, checking in between, until the level is where the manual wants it. This is also the moment to fit the FP004: thread and sealing face clean, cap turned in by hand until it sits, no extra force. On the road, the fuel stops are your chance for a quick look at the filler and at the engine casing below it. If both are still dry after the first day, the cap has settled in. Should the level need attention during the trip after all, buy the oil named in the manual at a dealer or a well-stocked filling station, and open the filler only once the engine has cooled, for instance the next morning before you set off again. A strip of kitchen roll in the tail bag is useful for wiping round the opening.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list covers the Panigale 1199 S from 2012 to 2015, the ABS version included, and names the Tricolore of 2012 and 2013 as well. Thanks to its M20x2.5 thread, the FP004 can also fit other motorcycles whose filler has the same size. At Inter-Pace it is catalogued for the Hyperstrada 821, the Monster 795 and the Hypermotard 821 too. For the 1199 S, Accossato also makes the FP007 cover for the clutch master cylinder, and all six of its colours are available for this oil cap, so the two can match.
Road Approval
For the FP004 we have neither a German ABE nor any other approval paperwork, so we sell it for use on closed circuits and in competition.
