DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki launched the Versys 1000 for 2012 as an upright four-cylinder tourer with long-travel suspension and revised it for 2015 with new bodywork. It is a tall, heavy bike, happiest on long roads, and at a circuit it often ends up parked in a grass paddock next to much lighter sports machines. Tall bikes and soft ground are not always good friends. For the Versys 1000 of 2012 to 2018, Accossato lists the FC143, a quick-release fuel tank cap machined from aluminium, with a pawl whose pin comes in six colours.

- Machined from aluminium throughout on CNC equipment
- Quick-closing pawl
- Pin colours: red, blue, gold, black, silver, green
- Replacement pawl available separately
- New design, robust and durable according to Accossato
- No German ABE on record; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's FC143 has a body made wholly of aluminium, machined by CNC, and the maker describes it as robust and durable, with a design that is new. On the Versys 1000 the quick-closing pawl opens the tank and closes it again in a moment. The pin sits on the pawl and comes in six colours. If the pawl is damaged, for instance when a parked bike topples over, Accossato sells it separately.
Soft Ground in the Paddock
Grass paddocks are common at smaller circuits and at events, and they turn soft after rain or on a hot afternoon. A side stand on soft ground slowly sinks, and a tall bike like the Versys 1000 leans further and further until it goes over. When it lands on its side, a cap that was not properly closed lets fuel run out onto the grass and the paint. Two simple habits prevent most of this. Carry a side-stand plate, or a flat piece of wood, and put it under the stand every time you park. Better still, use a paddock stand, which keeps the bike upright and makes refuelling easier too. And after every fill, close the pawl of the FC143 and check the cap before you walk away, never later. If the bike does fall, lift it with help, check the cap and the area around it for damage and leaks, and look at the levers and footrests before riding again.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Versys 1000 of 2012 to 2018 is on Accossato's list with the FC143, and those are the years we sell it for. With us the same cap is also available for the GTR 1400 and the ZX-10R. Look up your bike's model year on the application list before you order.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no parts certificate are documented for the FC143, so it is sold for circuit use. On the road, the Versys 1000 should carry its factory cap, which normally locks with the ignition key.
