DescriptionThe whole story▼

The MT-09 SP is the version of Yamaha's three-cylinder naked bike for riders who ask more of the chassis, with higher-specification suspension than the standard MT-09. That makes it the MT-09 most likely to turn up at a track day, where the front brakes work harder in twenty minutes than in a week on the road. Accossato's DK077 is an Elite-line disc of floating design listed for the front of the MT-09 SP from 2018 to 2025, 298 mm in diameter and 5 mm thick, with a 132 mm bore and a black carrier.

Key Features

  • Elite floating front disc for the Yamaha MT-09 SP
  • Listed by Accossato for 2018 to 2025
  • 298 mm diameter, 5 mm thickness, 132 mm bore
  • Original thickness, as Accossato specifies for its Elite line
  • Black carrier, Accossato logo on the rivets
  • Minimum thickness printed on the disc
  • One disc; the SP carries two at the front
  • No German ABE or type approval documented; for the circuit

Construction and Material Quality

On a circuit the discs heat quickly and unevenly, and that is the reason floating designs exist. In the DK077 the friction ring is riveted to a black carrier with a little play, so the hot ring can grow without pulling the cooler carrier out of shape. The rivets bear Accossato's logo, the mark of the Elite line, and the ring keeps the 5 mm of the original disc. Accossato points to its Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 background for its choice of materials and the clearance between ring and carrier, and it credits the low weight of its discs with lighter steering.

Twenty Minutes at Full Heat

A session on a circuit loads a road bike's brakes in a way everyday riding never does: stop after stop from high speed, with little time in between to cool. Before the first session on the MT-09 SP, make sure the discs are well above their printed minimum, since a thin disc heats up faster and has less in reserve. Fresh brake fluid, changed before the event, is a sensible first step. On the out-lap, build heat into tyres and brakes gradually; on the last lap, ease off and let the air cool the discs before you enter the pit lane. In the paddock, avoid holding the front brake on with hot discs, because the pads can leave a deposit where they rest. After the day, look for blue discolouration or fine cracks at the outer edge and check the pads, whose wear can be surprisingly high after a few sessions.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK077 for the MT-09 SP from 2018 to 2025, the ABS model throughout. Two discs sit on the SP's front wheel, and the price applies to one. Accossato's second option for this bike is the DKS073, identical in size and supplied with published mounting data. Levers appear on the list too: the EDF016 for the brake and the ESY688 for the clutch.

Road Approval

The DK077 has neither a German ABE nor a documented type approval; it is sold as a track part.

Scope of Delivery
