DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Thruxton RS sits at the top of the Thruxton range, and it invites brisk riding on the kind of back road that climbs a valley one bend after another. Repeated hard stops on such a road heat the front discs more than any motorway could. For the Thruxton 1200 RS, Accossato lists the DK132, a floating front disc with a black carrier and a 320 mm ring, interchangeable with the original. The listed years are 2020 to 2025.

Key Features

  • Floating front brake disc for the Triumph Thruxton 1200 RS
  • Listed for 2020 to 2025
  • 320 mm outer diameter, 150 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thick
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • Black carrier
  • Minimum thickness printed on the ring
  • One disc per order; the RS brakes with two at the front
  • No German ABE on file; for the track

Construction and Material Quality

Rivets hold the DK132 together: they join the friction ring to its black carrier and give the ring a limited float, so it can expand under heat independently of the centre. Accossato relates its design to experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and highlights both the selection of raw materials and the close study of the clearance between carrier and ring. The company adds that a lighter disc helps with steering and control.

Heat on a Brisk Back Road

On a tight, twisting road ridden with enthusiasm, the front brakes of a Thruxton RS rarely get a chance to cool. Every bend begins with a firm stop, and in between there are only a few seconds of acceleration. The discs heat up, and so do the pads and the fluid. Signs that the brakes are getting too hot include a lever that has to be pulled further, a bite that weakens, or a hot smell when you stop. When you notice them, ease the pace for a while and let the air cool everything down, and use a lower gear so the engine helps with the slowing.

After such a ride, look at the discs: blue or brown tints on the friction surface show they have reached high temperatures. That is no fault in itself, but a disc that overheats again and again wears faster and can distort. Accossato recommends replacing discs at thirty to forty thousand kilometres, or sooner if they are worn, scored or cracked, and a Thruxton RS ridden this way may reach that point early.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK132 for the Thruxton 1200 RS from 2020 to 2025, replacing an original front disc. The RS has two front discs and the price covers one. Before ordering, measure the disc on your bike; the DK132 is 320 mm in diameter. For the Thruxton 1200 R, Accossato lists this disc for 2015 to 2016 and the DK203 for later years.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no type approval are recorded for this disc; it is intended for the racetrack.

Scope of Delivery

One DK132 floating front disc with black carrier, enough for one side of the RS.
