DescriptionThe whole story▼

For well over a decade the Speed Triple 1050 set the tone for Triumph's big naked triples, and its riders like to carry speed into corners. Doing that well involves releasing the front brake gradually as the bike leans, a technique known as trail braking. For the Speed Triple 1050, Accossato lists the DK132, a floating front disc with a black carrier and a 320 mm friction ring, interchangeable with the original. The list runs from 2007 to 2020.

Key Features

  • Floating front brake disc for the Triumph Speed Triple 1050
  • Listed for 2007 to 2020, across several versions
  • 320 mm outer diameter, 150 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thick
  • Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
  • Black carrier
  • Minimum thickness printed on the disc
  • One disc per order; the Speed Triple has two at the front
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The DK132 pairs a 320 mm friction ring with a black carrier and connects them through rivets. Those rivets allow the ring to float slightly, so it can expand with the heat of hard braking without distorting the carrier. Accossato states that its experience comes from racing in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and that tolerances and clearance between ring and carrier were studied closely. According to the supplier, the DK132 can take the place of the disc fitted at the factory.

Easing Off the Lever Into a Bend

Most riders learn to finish braking before they lean. Trail braking goes one step further: you brake firmly in a straight line, then, as you begin to turn in, you let the lever go gradually instead of all at once. The front tyre stays loaded, the fork stays slightly compressed and the Speed Triple turns in more willingly. The key word is gradually. A sudden release lets the fork spring up, while holding hard braking deep into the lean asks too much of the tyre. Practise at moderate speed on bends you know well, and concentrate on making the release smooth rather than late.

The technique puts particular demands on the discs, because you are using light, precise pressure while the bike is leaned over, and any unevenness shows up at once. A slightly warped disc makes the front tyre's grip fluctuate with each rotation, which you feel as a pulse at the lever in the middle of a bend. That is the moment to measure the discs and compare the reading with the minimum marked on each ring.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK132 for the Speed Triple 1050 from 2007 to 2020 and names several versions: the ABS model of 2007 to 2020, a version without ABS from 2008 to 2016, and T, T R and T SE versions with ABS, with dates beginning in 2011. The disc replaces an original front disc; the Speed Triple has two and the price covers one. Accossato's lever list for this bike includes the EDF099, EST333, EST333P, LV012 and RA001.

Road Approval

No German ABE or type approval has been documented for the DK132. Use it on the circuit.
