DescriptionThe whole story▼
Not every Ducati Panigale V4 S lives on a racetrack. Plenty are ridden over mountain roads on summer weekends, where the test for the brakes is a long descent rather than a single hard stop. For the front wheel of the Panigale V4 S from 2018 to 2022, Accossato offers the DKS036, an Elite-line floating disc: 330 mm across, with a 5.5 mm friction ring, a black carrier and rivets bearing Accossato's logo.
Key Features
- Elite floating front disc for the Ducati Panigale V4 S, 2018 to 2022
- Listed for the V4 S and the V4 S Corse
- 330 mm outside diameter, 72 mm centre bore, 5.5 mm ring
- Black carrier with Accossato logo on the rivets
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Single disc; the V4 S needs two at the front
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
This is a floating disc: the ring the pads grip and the black carrier that bolts to the wheel are separate pieces, connected by rivets that allow a small, deliberate amount of movement. On the DKS036 the ring is 5.5 mm thick with an outer diameter of 330 mm, and the carrier's centre measures 72 mm. The rivets carry the Accossato logo, the mark of the Elite line. The company from the Turin area says its approach to discs was shaped in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and that its choice of materials and fine tuning of tolerances give an effective stop at modest weight.
Down the Far Side of a Pass
Climbing a pass is easy on the brakes. Coming down is not. On a long descent with one hairpin after another, the front discs of the Panigale V4 S are used every few hundred metres, and there is little straight road in between for them to cool. Heat builds up in discs, pads and fluid. The first sign is often a lever that needs a little more travel than it did at the top, and in the worst case the pads fade. Riders who come down in a relaxed rhythm rarely notice anything; those who descend as fast as they climbed sometimes do.
The answer lies in technique more than in hardware. Let the engine hold the bike back by choosing a lower gear, brake firmly and briefly before each bend instead of dragging the brakes through it, and let the rear brake share some of the work. Stop for a few minutes halfway down if the lever feels different. Afterwards, look at the front discs: heat tint, uneven deposits or a pulse at the lever on the next ride are reasons to measure them against the minimum marked on the disc. Accossato's guideline is to replace discs every thirty to forty thousand kilometres, or sooner when they are worn, scored or cracked.
Fitment and Compatibility
The standard Panigale V4 S and the V4 S Corse both appear in Accossato's list for the DKS036, with the years 2018 to 2022. It is sold as a single disc, and the Panigale V4 S uses two at the front, so order two for a complete change. There is no other Accossato disc listed for this bike.
Road Approval
The DKS036 has no German ABE and no type approval on record. Its use is on the track and in competition.
