DescriptionThe whole story▼
A tip-over in a car park or a slow slide off the track can leave a Ducati Panigale V2 955 looking almost untouched, while a front disc has taken a knock that only shows later as a rub or a wobble. A disc in that state needs replacing. Accossato's DK053 is a floating front disc for the Panigale V2 955 of 2020 to 2024, with a black carrier and a 4.5 mm friction ring, and Accossato states that it is interchangeable with the original equipment disc.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Ducati Panigale V2 955, 2020 to 2024
- Listed by Accossato for the standard V2 and the Bayliss edition
- 320 mm outer diameter, 72 mm inner diameter, 4.5 mm ring
- Black carrier, riveted friction ring
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc; the V2 955 needs two at the front
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The friction ring and the black carrier of the DK053 are separate parts, held together by rivets that give the ring a little freedom to move sideways and to expand with heat. That is what makes it a floating disc. Accossato quotes the dimensions as 320 mm outside, 72 mm inside and 4.5 mm thick, and explains that its development draws on racing in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, with close attention to tolerances and to the clearance between carrier and ring. The carrier is finished in black, the only colour listed for this disc.
After a Tumble
Not all crash damage is visible. After a fall with the Panigale V2 955, put the bike on paddock stands and turn the front wheel slowly by hand. Listen for a rhythmic rub and watch the gap between disc and caliper. A bent disc touches the pads at one point of each turn and stands clear at another; on the road it shows up as a pulsing lever or a shimmy as you slow down. Look closely at the outer edge for dents or burrs where it may have hit a kerb or the ground, and check that the rivets are intact and seated, even though they allow slight movement.
A bent disc cannot be trusted, and straightening it is not an option. Replace it, and while the wheel of the Panigale V2 955 is out, inspect everything else a fall can reach: the rim for dents, the wheel bearings for roughness, the caliper mounts and the fork legs for marks. Accossato also reminds riders that each disc shows its minimum thickness. A crash is a good reason to check both front discs against that figure, because the replacement of one side may be the right moment to renew both.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK053 for the Ducati Panigale V2 955 from 2020 to 2024 and names the standard V2 as well as the Bayliss edition among the covered versions. The price is for one disc, and the V2 955 carries two at the front. The Elite-line DKS035 is the alternative front disc for this bike, while the DK008 is listed for the rear.
Road Approval
The DK053 does not have a German ABE or a documented type approval. It is sold for use on race circuits and in competition.
