DescriptionThe whole story▼
Many Ducati Monster 796s are ridden as everyday bikes, taken to work and parked outside, and sooner or later one of them starts to announce every stop with a high-pitched squeal from the front. The noise is rarely dangerous, but it usually has a cause worth finding. Accossato lists its DKS053 floating front disc for the Monster 796 across 2010 to 2015: a black carrier with a 320 mm ring, 5.5 mm thick and, according to the supplier, a direct swap for the factory part.

- Five mounting holes of 8.5 mm, 90 mm hole-centre distance

- No German ABE documented; track use
Construction and Material Quality
Around a 72 mm bore, the black carrier of the DKS053 has five holes of 8.5 mm for the fixing bolts, which Accossato places on a 90 mm hole-centre distance. Rivets link that carrier to the friction ring, loosely enough for the ring to float and expand with heat on its own, and Accossato says it pays close attention to the clearance at this joint. Every Accossato disc carries its minimum working thickness in print, so the new disc brings its own wear limit with it.
When the Front Brake Squeals
A squeal is vibration: pads and disc excite each other at a frequency the ear can hear. On a bike that lives outdoors, the usual suspects are dirt and glaze. Road grime and pad dust gather around the caliper, and pads that are only ever used gently grow a hard, shiny skin. Cleaning the discs and calipers with brake cleaner, rather than blowing the dust about with compressed air, followed by a series of firm stops on a quiet road, often cures it. If the noise persists, look at the backing plates and any anti-squeal shims of the pads, and at the disc surface for a step or deep scoring. A light metallic clicking at walking pace is a different matter: on a floating disc the ring moves a little on its rivets, and that is normal. A squeal that appears straight after new parts have been fitted usually fades once the pads have bedded in on the Monster 796.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list for the DKS053 runs from 2010 to 2015 on the Monster 796 and names the ABS version and the 2013 Anniversario as well. The bike has two front discs, and the price is for one. No other Accossato disc is listed for this Monster, but several levers are: the EDB012, ESD022, LV010 and LV011.
Road Approval
This disc has no German ABE, and there is no type approval on record. It is offered for track and competition use.
