DescriptionThe whole story▼
Some Ducati Monster 1200 owners keep riding through the winter on dry, cold days, and the roads they use are often white with salt. Salt and moisture attack anything made of metal, and the front discs sit right in the spray thrown up by the tyre. Accossato's DKS053 is listed for the Monster 1200 from 2014 to 2021; its floating ring, 5.5 mm thick and 320 mm in diameter, rides on a black carrier.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2014 to 2021
- 320 mm outside, 72 mm bore, 5.5 mm thick
- Five 8.5 mm mounting holes, hole-centre distance 90 mm
- Black carrier; friction ring floats on rivets
- Interchangeable with the original part
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc supplied; the Monster uses two
- No German ABE on record; for the track
Construction and Material Quality
Friction ring outside, black carrier inside, rivets in between that let the ring float: that is the DKS053. The carrier's fixing pattern is five holes of 8.5 mm with a hole-centre distance of 90 mm, and its bore measures 72 mm. Accossato says the disc is interchangeable with the original equipment part. The company sees the roots of its disc technology in racing, naming Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, and adds that the low weight of its discs benefits steering and handling.
Salt on Winter Roads
After a ride on salted roads, rinse the Monster 1200 with plenty of clean water as soon as you can, starting with the wheels and brakes. A pressure washer aimed at the calipers can drive salty water into seals and gaps, so a gentle stream is kinder. Let the discs dry with a short ride and a few light stops. On a floating disc, corrosion can also creep in between ring and rivets and stiffen the joint; a ring that no longer moves at all has lost part of what makes it float. In spring, measure the discs and check the rivets before the season gets going.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's entry for the DKS053 covers the Monster 1200 from 2014 to 2021. The bike runs two front discs, and one DKS053 is one disc, so two are needed for both sides. As an alternative, Accossato lists the DK053, which is a millimetre thinner, and it also names several of its levers for this Monster, among them the EDF099, ESH011 and RA002.
Road Approval
Circuit use only: the DKS053 lacks a German ABE, and a type approval has not been documented.
Scope of Delivery
Delivery: one floating disc, reference DKS053, with a black carrier. A second one is needed for the other side.
