DescriptionThe whole story▼
In tight woods the handlebar is the widest part of the bike, and the lever tips reach almost to its ends. Anyone who races a Yamaha YZ250X through narrow tree sections knows the sound of a lever tapping bark, and sometimes it is more than a tap. The C7266 is Accossato's folding clutch lever for the YZ250X of 2016 to 2022. It is machined in Italy from Ergal 7075 and has the long blade the company designs for four fingers, attached to its base by a joint that allows it to swing forward when it strikes something solid.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Yamaha YZ250X, model years 2016 to 2022
- Installed at the original clutch perch
- Longer blade, laid out for four fingers
- Anti-break joint lets the blade give way forward on impact
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Choice of black or blue blade on a dark base
- No German ABE on file; for off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the C7266 from Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy with zinc as its main alloying element and a high strength rating, and removes material on CNC machines in Italy until only the lever remains. Strength and reliability at low weight is the stated goal. The lever has a dark base that sits at the pivot of the clutch perch and a black or blue blade, and the two are linked by a folding joint. Because it is a clutch lever, the blade is the longer of Accossato's two off-road shapes and leaves room for four fingers when a tricky section calls for the whole hand.
When the Trees Stand Close
Tight tree sections reward a narrow, precise line and punish a lazy one. On a YZ250X you look for the gap rather than the tree, keep the bike upright through the narrowest point and steer with the footpegs as much as the bars. The clutch helps: slipping it slightly lets the bike crawl through a gap at a steady pace without the two-stroke surging between on and off throttle. Many riders scrub off speed before the gap rather than in it, because braking or snatching at the clutch while threading between trunks is exactly when the bars start to wander.
Even so, the lever gets clipped now and then. A trunk leans into the line, a branch whips back, or the front wheel deflects off a root and the left end of the bar meets bark. A solid lever takes that knock at its tip and may bend or break. The joint on the C7266 gives its blade the chance to swing forward and let the tree go by, which leaves a fair chance that the YZ250X keeps a working clutch for the rest of the loop. It does not replace good line choice, and a hard enough hit can still damage it, but it removes one of the easier ways to end a woods race early.
Fitment and Compatibility
The C7266 appears in Accossato's list for the Yamaha YZ250X from 2016 to 2022 and replaces the lever at the stock clutch perch. The matching B8265 folding brake lever is listed for the same years and adds green to the palette; for identical colours left and right, stay with black or blue.
Road Approval
The C7266 comes without a documented German ABE and is offered for competition and off-road riding on closed terrain.
