DescriptionThe whole story▼

A tight turn followed by a big jump is one of the classic tests of a 250 four-stroke. The engine has to be in its strong rev range by the time the tyre reaches the face, and there is only a short run-up to get it there. On a TM Racing MX 250 four-stroke the clutch makes the difference: a quick slip out of the turn to lift the revs, then a clean release up the face. Accossato's C7283 is a folding clutch lever for the MX 250 four-stroke from 2010 to 2019, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the TM Racing MX 250 four-stroke, 2010 to 2019
  • Fitted at the original clutch mount in place of the stock lever
  • Long blade laid out for four fingers
  • Anti-break hinge lets the blade tip forward rather than break
  • CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
  • Blade in black, blue, orange or red on a dark base
  • No German ABE documented; for motocross use

Construction and Material Quality

The C7283 is machined from a solid block, and the block is Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy of the high-strength kind. Accossato does the milling on CNC equipment in Italy and says it wants a lever that is strong, reliable and low in weight. The dark base stays on the pivot of the clutch mount; the blade, in black, blue, orange or red, is joined to it by a hinge that lets it fold. The blade is long enough for four fingers, as on all of Accossato's off-road clutch levers.

Revs Before the Jump Face

Clearing a jump that comes straight after a turn is a matter of timing. The rider exits the turn in second or third gear, slips the clutch for a moment to bring the MX 250 four-stroke into its power, then releases the lever fully and holds the throttle steady up the face. Too little clutch and the bike arrives short of revs; too much and the rear tyre spins on the face and the bike kicks. The movement is short and precise, and it is repeated every lap.

Getting it wrong has consequences. A jump cased or landed short can throw the rider off or put the bike down on the landing, and a clutch lever that hits the ground at speed is easily snapped. In such a crash the C7283's blade may fold forward on its hinge instead of breaking at the tip. That will not happen every time, and after a big crash the lever should be checked, but it improves the odds that the TM can be restarted and ridden back to the pits, or back into the race, with a working clutch.

Fitment and Compatibility

On the TM Racing MX 250 four-stroke, the C7283 replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mount on bikes from 2010 to 2019. Bikes from before 2010 are not covered by this clutch lever, though the B8206 folding brake lever is listed for the MX 250 four-stroke from 2002. Black, blue and red are offered for both; the clutch lever also comes in orange.

Road Approval

The C7283 has no German ABE on record. It is intended for motocross tracks and off-road competition, where the MX 250 four-stroke belongs.

Scope of Delivery
