DescriptionThe whole story▼

Park an FZ8 on a sloping street, and the way you leave it decides how easily you get going again. Many riders leave the bike in first gear so that it cannot roll, which means the first thing to do on your return is pull the clutch, before the bike moves at all. The Accossato ESY688 is a clutch lever for the FZ8 of 2011 to 2015, milled from aluminium, with a reach you can bring in so that this first pull, and every one after it, needs no stretch.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Yamaha FZ8, model years 2011 to 2015
  • Mounts at the original clutch mounting
  • Adjustable reach, adjuster near the pivot
  • Standard blade roughly 138 mm; short and long blades in several colours
  • Milled aluminium, anodised in two tones
  • Blade colours: black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver, green
  • Rigid from hub to tip
  • Sold for track use; no German ABE documented

Construction and Material Quality

Rather than casting it, Accossato cuts the ESY688 from solid aluminium and then anodises it. The dark hub carries the pivot and the reach setting; the blade takes your chosen colour and continues as one piece to the tip. That makes the lever stiff under load, which you notice whenever you hold the clutch in for a longer spell, for instance on a hill with the bike in gear. The anodised layer is hard and does not flake, and it stands up well to a life of outdoor parking.

Parked on a Slope

Getting away from a parking space on a slope is a short routine that is easy to rush. Sit on the bike, hold the front brake and pull the clutch in before anything else: the moment the clutch is in, the gear no longer holds the FZ8, and the brake has to. Bring the bike upright, fold the side stand away and start the engine with the lever still pulled. Then find the bite point while the brake holds the bike, and release the brake as the clutch takes up. Facing downhill, the order is the same, but the brake does more of the work and the clutch comes in once you are rolling. Throughout this routine the left hand holds the lever against the grip for longer than it does at most junctions, and that is where a well-set reach pays off. Adjust it so that you can keep the lever pulled all the way in without your fingers straining, in the gloves you normally wear.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the ESY688 for the FZ8 from 2011 to 2015 and names the FZ8, the FZ8 N and the FZ8 S among the versions. It replaces the stock clutch lever at the original mounting, and for the right-hand side of the same bikes there is the EDF016 brake lever. Keep in mind that black and red are made as standard levers only.

Road Approval

No German ABE is recorded for the ESY688, which is why we sell it for the track.
