DescriptionThe whole story▼
Those balloon tyres are more than a style statement. The RV200 VanVan rolls happily over gravel paths, grassy car parks and sandy tracks where narrow road tyres would squirm, and soft ground like that is where the clutch shows what it can do. Pull away badly and the rear wheel simply digs a hole. Accossato's ESS248 is a clutch lever for the RV200 VanVan of 2016, machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, with an adjustable distance to the grip for a gentle, controlled release.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Suzuki RV200 VanVan, model year 2016
- Replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach, with the adjuster near the pivot
- Short, standard (about 138 mm) and long blades, depending on colour
- Anodised aluminium machined on CNC equipment
- Black hub with a coloured blade
- Rigid design, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; offered for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Sand gets everywhere, and a clutch lever sits right in its path. The ESS248 for the RV200 VanVan is machined from aluminium and anodised, which gives both the black hub and the coloured blade a surface considerably harder than bare aluminium. The hub carries the pivot and the reach adjuster. The blade is fixed and made in one piece, with no hinge for fine grit to work its way into, and a rinse with fresh water after a sandy ride keeps the pivot moving freely.
Moving Off on Soft Ground
On sand or deep gravel the instinct is to give the engine plenty of revs and let the clutch out quickly. The result is wheelspin: the rear tyre digs in, the bike sinks and slews sideways, and the harder you try, the deeper it goes. The better approach is almost the opposite. Many riders start in second gear rather than first on soft ground, because the gentler drive is less likely to break through the surface. Keep the revs modest, let the lever out slowly and steadily, and allow the bike to roll before adding throttle. Once it is moving, keep a light, constant pull and resist the urge to stop and start again. The VanVan's wide tyres spread the load and help it float over the surface, but they cannot make up for a snatched clutch. A lever set within easy reach lets you meter the release with two fingers while the rest of the hand holds the bar steady, and the long blade gives a lighter pull to those who prefer a fuller grip.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESS248 for the RV 200 Van Van in the 2016 model year, fitted at the original clutch mounting. The EDF014 brake lever is listed for 2016 and 2017, so on a 2016 bike both sides can be ordered in the same colour. Black and red blades come in the standard length only, silver standard or short, and blue, gold, green and orange in all three lengths.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the ESS248, so it is offered strictly for track use.
