DescriptionThe whole story▼

The ZZR1400 was built around a big inline four and a chassis designed for stability at speed, and some owners take it where both can be used without traffic: to a drag strip or a straight-line event. There, a run is largely decided in the second after the lights change, and that second belongs to the left hand. Accossato's ESH088 is a fixed clutch lever for the ZZR1400 of 2006 to 2020, CNC-machined from aluminium, with an adjustable reach so that the bite point can sit exactly where your fingers expect it.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Kawasaki ZZR1400, 2006 to 2020, also listed as ZX-14R
  • Replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
  • Adjustable distance to the grip
  • Standard length approx. 138 mm; short and long blades in selected colours
  • Machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, anodised in two tones
  • Fixed blade with no folding joint
  • Supplied in an Accossato box

Construction and Material Quality

A computer-controlled milling machine follows the same program for every ESH088, so each lever comes off it with an identical profile and the pivot bore in the same place. Accossato then anodises it, the hub in black and the blade in whichever of the seven colours you order. The adjuster for the reach sits in the hub, close to the pivot. There is no folding joint. On the clutch side that matters more than it might seem: a one-piece lever has no second pivot that could develop play, so it returns to the same resting position after every pull, and the bite point stays where you set it.

Standing Starts on the Strip

A good launch is repeatable rather than spectacular. You stage, hold the revs steady, and when the light changes you let the clutch out through the friction zone at the same rate every time, with your body forward so the front stays down and the rear tyre drives rather than spins. Release it too quickly and the front lifts or the tyre breaks loose; too slowly, and the run is lost before the first gear change. Riders who take this seriously rely on muscle memory, and muscle memory needs a lever that sits in the same place and bites at the same point on every run. That is where the reach adjustment earns its keep: set the blade so the friction zone falls where your fingers are strongest, not at the far end of their stretch. On the ZZR1400 a standard or long blade gives the leverage for a controlled, even release, while the short one suits riders who work the clutch with two fingers.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's list gives the ESH088 for the ZZR1400 from 2006 to 2020, under the ZZR1400 and ZX-14R names, with further entries for the SE of 2013 to 2015 and for the Performance Sport of 2016 to 2020. The lever fits the original clutch mounting. Its partner for the front brake is the EDF088, listed for the same years and anodised in the same colours, so both sides of the bar can be ordered as a pair.

Road Approval

The ESH088 has no German ABE on record, and it is offered for use on closed tracks.
