DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Desert Sled of 2017 took the Scrambler 800 further from the tarmac than any version before it, with longer suspension and a stance made for gravel. It is one of the bikes on Accossato's list for the ESD082, a clutch lever that covers the Scrambler 800 from 2015 to 2017, together with the 2017 Café Racer. Machined from aluminium, it replaces the original lever on the standard clutch mounting, and its reach can be adjusted.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Scrambler 800, 2015 to 2017, including 2017 Café Racer and Desert Sled
  • Fits the original clutch mounting
  • Adjustable reach for seated and standing riding
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long blades in selected colours
  • Anodised aluminium, black hub, seven blade colours
  • CNC-machined from solid material
  • Fixed lever without a folding joint
  • No German ABE documented, for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The ESD082 is CNC-machined from solid aluminium and anodised in two colours: the hub black, the blade in your choice of black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. It is a fixed lever, with no joint between the hub and the tip, and the adjuster for the grip distance is built into the hub near the pivot. On gravel, where dust gets everywhere, having fewer moving parts on the left lever of the Scrambler 800 is no disadvantage.

Standing Up on Loose Ground

Off-road riders stand on the pegs, and standing changes how the hands meet the controls. The grips come lower relative to the body, the arms bend and the hold on the bar becomes looser. On a Scrambler 800 ridden on gravel, the clutch is used constantly to meter the drive to a rear tyre that has little grip. With the ESD082 set closer to the grip, one or two fingers can cover the clutch while you stand, ready to slip it when the rear steps out or the bike bogs down on a climb. Try the setting both seated and standing, because what suits one position may not suit the other. Accossato knows this kind of riding from its own past: the company won an enduro world title in 1985.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the ESD082 for the Scrambler 800 from 2015 to 2017. Its list names the standard 803 models of those years, plus the 2017 Café Racer and the 2017 Desert Sled. For 2019 bikes, Accossato lists other clutch levers: the ESD022 and, for the Café Racer, the ESH011. The brake lever for the 2015 to 2017 Scrambler 800 is the EDB012, while the Café Racer has its own, the EDD001.

Road Approval

No German ABE is on record for the ESD082, and we sell it for track use.
