DescriptionThe whole story▼
A sports tourer like the VFR1200F is often ridden on long country roads, and many long rides end as the light fades. That is also when deer, foxes and wild boar are most likely to cross, especially where the road runs through woodland or along fields. The EDF018 from Accossato is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the VFR1200F, listed for the 2016 and 2017 model years, with an adjustable reach so the brake is ready the moment something moves at the roadside.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the Honda VFR1200F, 2016 to 2017
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable reach
- Long blade with extra room for thicker gloves, in four colours
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm
- Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
- Black hub, fixed blade
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF018 is made from solid aluminium, machined on CNC equipment and then anodised. The hub, which carries the pivot and the reach adjuster, is always black, while the blade is anodised in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. The lever has no folding mechanism. It is a single, fixed piece, so the pressure of your fingers goes straight to the master cylinder, and the anodised colour, formed in the aluminium surface, keeps its appearance through seasons of touring.
Wildlife at Dusk
At dusk the eyes adapt slowly, colours fade, and an animal standing at the edge of the road can be almost invisible until it moves. Riders who know the risk slow down on wooded stretches in the evening and early morning, watch the verges as well as the road ahead, and keep the right hand ready. Being ready does not mean riding with the brake on. It means the fingers can reach the lever in an instant, without first opening the hand. On the VFR1200F, set the EDF018 so the blade rests under your fingertips while the hand is relaxed on the throttle; from there, a firm, progressive squeeze can begin immediately. Where one deer crosses, others often follow, so after a near miss, stay slow for a while. Check the reach again in the gloves you wear on cool evenings, which are often thicker than your summer pair. For those, the long blade, in blue, gold, green or orange, gives the fingers more room and more leverage.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF018 for the VFR1200F in 2016 and 2017. The EDF012 is listed for the same bike from 2010 to 2016, so for 2016 both brake levers appear; compare your original lever with the product photos if your VFR1200F is from that year. For the clutch side of the manual bike, Accossato lists the ESH033 from 2010 to 2017.
Road Approval
The EDF018 has no documented German ABE; it is supplied for use on a race track.
