DescriptionThe whole story▼

Ducati built the Panigale 899 as the mid-size member of its superbike family: a Superquadro twin, clip-on bars and a riding position that puts the rider low over the tank. In that crouch the right wrist works at an angle no roadster asks of it, and on a good road the front brake is often still applied as the bike tips into a bend. The Accossato EDF099 replaces the original brake lever of the 2014 to 2015 Panigale 899. It sits on the original master cylinder, and its reach can be adjusted so the blade meets your fingers where the crouch puts them.

Key Features

  • Direct replacement for the front brake lever of the Panigale 899, 2014 to 2015
  • Fits the original master cylinder
  • Distance to the grip adjustable at the hub
  • Standard blade of approximately 138 mm, plus short and long blades in selected colours
  • CNC-machined aluminium with anodised finish
  • Black hub, blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
  • Fixed blade, no folding joint
  • No German ABE documented: sold for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato mills the EDF099 out of solid aluminium on CNC machines and anodises it once the shape is finished. Machining rather than casting gives the blade an even cross-section wherever your fingers land, and the surfaces come off the machine clean enough to need no paint. The hub, with the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, is always black; the colour you pick is reserved for the blade. Nothing along the length of the lever is hinged, so the part you pull is one rigid piece from the pivot outwards.

Trail Braking From a Crouch

Trail braking means carrying some front brake past the turn-in point and releasing it gradually while the lean angle builds. On a Panigale 899 you do this with your chest near the tank and the wrist bent downwards, and the lever position decides how cleanly the release happens. With the blade too far out, the fingers open wide, the wrist cocks further and the pressure tends to come off in steps rather than in one smooth fade. Bring the reach in until the blade sits under the middle of your fingers while the wrist stays roughly in line with the forearm, and the movement becomes small enough to control. The short blade follows the same idea: two fingers work the brake while the other two keep the throttle steady through the release. Make the adjustment sitting on the 899 in your riding position, because the angle of the hand when tucked in has little in common with the angle when standing beside the bike.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF099 for the Panigale 899 of 2014 and 2015, with the standard 899 as the version on its list. The lever takes the place of the original part on the stock master cylinder. For the clutch side of the same bikes, Accossato makes the ESH011, available in the same seven colours if you want both levers to match.

Road Approval

This lever comes without a documented German ABE and is offered for use on the race track.
