DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Panigale 1199 arrived in 2012 with the Superquadro twin and a frame built around the engine, and like any large-capacity twin it slows down hard the moment you close the throttle. That engine braking is part of its character, and it changes how much work the front brake has to do. Riders who learn to use both together ride a 1199 more smoothly. The Accossato EDF099 is a machined aluminium replacement for the front brake lever of the Panigale 1199 from 2012 to 2016, adjustable in reach and made in three lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Panigale 1199 and 1199 Tricolore
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance to the grip for fine control
- Lengths: short, standard (approximately 138 mm), long
- Anodised aluminium, CNC-machined
- Black hub, blade in one of seven colours
- Fixed design, packed in its own box
Construction and Material Quality
This lever is machined from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised afterwards: the hub black, the blade in a colour of your choice. There are no cast parts and no hinge in it. For the kind of braking described below, the absence of a hinge counts, because fine control depends on a lever that responds to the smallest movement of the fingers without any free play of its own.
Engine Braking From a Big Twin
Close the throttle on a Panigale 1199 and the bike slows noticeably before you have touched a brake. Downshifting adds to that effect. In a medium-speed corner on the road, engine braking can do much of the work, and the front brake only has to add a little. That little is the difficult part: too much and the bike pitches forward and runs wide, too little and you arrive too fast.
A lever that sits right under your fingers makes those small doses easier. Set the reach so that your fingertips rest on the blade without any pressure, and practise adding the front brake gently while the engine is already slowing the bike. You will find that the first part of the lever travel does most of the work. The short blade, made in blue, green, orange, gold and silver, suits riders who brake this way with two fingers. The standard blade keeps the feel closest to the original.
Fitment and Compatibility
According to Accossato, the EDF099 fits the Panigale 1199 of 2012 to 2016, and its list names the Tricolore version alongside the standard bike. The lever takes the place of the original on the front master cylinder. For the clutch of the same Panigale, Accossato's reference is the ESH011.
Road Approval
We sell the EDF099 for track use. No German ABE is documented for it.
