DescriptionThe whole story

A 183 kg sportbike does not generate the heat a litre machine does, and that changes what a good brake pad has to do. On the Aprilia RS 660 the limiting factor is rarely raw stopping power - it is how precisely the rider can meter the last few metres of braking while the chassis is already turning. The ZCOO B007 in EX Race compound answers that with a tall 51.0 mm friction face and a mixture tuned for proportionality rather than initial attack.

Key Features

  • 85.0 x 51.0 mm friction face, 8.0 mm thick - the tall shape gives a large swept area relative to the RS 660's light front end
  • Ceramic-sintered EX Race compound built for controlled, proportional deceleration instead of a sharp initial grab
  • Stable friction level up to and beyond 600 degrees Celsius, so repeated trackday laps do not shift the braking point
  • Rotor-friendly by design - important on a middleweight whose thinner discs have less thermal mass to absorb an aggressive pad
  • Rigid laser-cut backing plate keeps the pad flat against the disc as the material wears
  • One pack serves one caliper; the RS 660 runs twin front discs, so budget two packs for the front axle

Construction and Material Quality

Okada Corporation in Japan sinters the friction material directly onto a laser-cut metal backing plate. On a bike as light as the RS 660 the interesting part is not peak torque but what happens between 100 and 400 degrees, where an organic pad is already soft and a hard race sinter is still cold and grabby. The ceramic-sintered EX mixture is designed to sit across that whole band with the same character, which is why ZCOO sells it as the road, trackday and club-race compound rather than a pure sprint-race item.

Performance and Feel

The practical gain on an RS 660 shows up in corner entry. Because braking force tracks lever pressure closely, the rider can trail the brake deep and bleed it off in small increments instead of releasing in one step to avoid upsetting the front. The compound also lays a thin ceramic film on the rotor during use, which reduces the abrasive wear a sintered pad normally inflicts - a meaningful difference on a machine whose front discs are lighter and thinner than a superbike's.

Fitment and Compatibility

Listed by ZCOO for the Aprilia RS 660 from 2020 through 2026. The same B007 shape also covers the Tuono 660 and the RS 660 Trofeo and Extrem. Front axle only. Confirm your caliper accepts a pad of 85.0 mm length and 51.0 mm height before ordering.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
