A woven filter can be pictured. There is a thread, there is a gap between threads, and anyone can form a mental image of what gets through it. A nonwoven offers no such image: no repeating unit, no mesh to hold up to the light, nothing intuition can take hold of. That matters more on the largest engine using this housing than on the smallest, because intuition about whether a fine element will choke a big motor is precisely what riders reach for, and it is the least reliable instrument in the box.

Two numbers and no picture

What is published for this medium is a filtration rating and a flow rate, and those two figures are the whole of what can honestly be compared. Against the standard weave at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec, the P14 sits at 14 microns and 1,800 — far finer, and passing a fraction of the rate. Anyone reasoning instead from what the material looks like, or from the assumption that a big engine must have the most open filter available, is reasoning from the wrong evidence.

Where the honest uncertainty sits

Neither figure knows anything about your roads, and that is the variable this decision actually turns on. Sprint Filter can specify a medium; it cannot specify the air in a particular valley, city or season, and no manufacturer can. What can be said plainly is the shape of the exchange: finer holds more back and lets less through, which is a trade rather than a step up. And no element dropped into a standard airbox makes a standard 990 Duke quicker, this one included.

Care and cleaning

Air on the clean face, driven outward, until the medium stops giving anything up — that is the whole routine most of the time, and it costs a few minutes with the tank furniture off. When the loading has gone sticky, lukewarm water and a mild detergent finish it; rinse until the run-off is clear. Fitment & Compatibility

The P14 for the KTM 990 Duke, 2024 to 2026. Five machines qualify through a shared airbox rather than a shared engine, running from the 790 of 2018 to the machines released for 2026.
